VP of Agronomy

This position directs, promotes, and coordinates all agronomy department operations, establishes and communicates departmental goals, plans, and results to the Ag Plus Team. Leads the Team to achieve the Ag Plus mission, values, and goals. This position will manage all sales, marketing and operational activities of the agronomy department for the company by performing the essential duties and responsibilities personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct staffing and training to promote and support Ag Plus’s agronomy programs.
  • Responsible for cost controls and budgeting of the agronomy department.
  • Analyzes and controls expenditures of staff to conform to budgetary requirements.
  • Assess department performance and take corrective action as needed.
  • Responsible for sales, inventories, and margins on agronomy department products.
  • Define prices and market strategy of products and services in conjunction with the CEO
  • Provides analysis for products sales and forecast.
  • Prepares periodic sales report showing sales volume and potential sales.
  • Effectively communicates with patrons, distributors, and company staff.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting in producer meetings.
  • Keep CEO informed on important developments affecting the department, or Ag Plus as a whole.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise employees on work expectations and product knowledge.
  • Assess, nurture, and support employee growth.
  • Abides by all company’s safety and environmental policies and current industry standards.
  • Maintain records and documentation as required by regulation.
  • Follow good management practices.
  • Perform other duties that may be directed by the CEO.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; or 5-10 years or more related experience and/or education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration: 

  • Valid Indiana Driver’ License
  • (Preferred Commercial Driver’s License with Hazardous Material Endorsement a plus)
  • Preferred Commercial Pesticide Applicator License 1A
  • Preferred CCA certificate
  • Preferred CAT 14
  • Employment is contingent on passing pre-employment drug test, driver check, and signing employment agreements.

 


Location Manager Monroeville

Manages grain, distribution, and marketing operations for the Monroeville location in a manner
that will optimize Ag Plus’s market share and savings, improve Ag Plus’s efficiency, help achieve
Ag Plus’s mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service

  • Promotes, and supports Ag Plus’s grain and agronomy programs.
  • Maintains facility and equipment so that they have a good appearance and are always in
    working order.
  • Complete written activity support documents as required.
  • Monitor grain inventory quality/condition and complete weekly inventory reports.
  • Maintain all records required by OSHA or Ag Plus’s safety procedures.
  • Provides customers a cash grain bid and explains basic grain contracts.
  • Oversees plant personnel training so that tasks are performed properly and safely.
  • Controls inventories for proper seasonal levels.
  • Maintains customer contact as needed, as well as a continual prospect list that is contacted appropriately.
  • Adheres to the credit guidelines of Ag Plus.
  • Helps plan, develop, and implement Ag Plus policies and goals.
  • Oversees compliance at the Monroeville location regarding governmental regulations, and
    safety.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises assigned employees.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelors degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; or 15
years or more related experience and/or education; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.

 


Agronomy Sales - Raber

Requires a valid driver’s license.

 


  • Responsible for fertilizer and chemical sales during the season including making accurate price
    and quantity quotes with correct terms.
  • Make regular sales calls on customers promoting the products the company sells.
  • Assist location with application work, tendering, and soil testing when needed.
  • Perform additional tasks that may be required.

 

Education and/or Experience- Bachelor degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; and a minimum of ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of
education and experience. 

 


Custom Applicator - Raber

Requires a valid Ag CDL.  Performs custom application for the assigned locations by performing the following duties personally or with the support of other plant personnel.

 

  • Responsible for proper application and placement of chemical and fertilizer.
  • Responsible for upkeep and repairs for all vehicle and equipment.
  • Must know, understand, and comply with all safety and governmental regulations.
  • Maintain and service all Agronomy equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of all chemicals and their abilities of control.
  • Assist all other departments in their busy seasons.
  • Assist on other projects in the shop.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Provide positive customer service & co-employee relations.
  • Perform additional tasks that may be required.

Grain Transport Driver - Full Time (Multiple Locations)

 Requires a valid Class A CDL

 

  • Transport grain to/from grain facilities as instructed by Grain Merchandiser in a safe manner, in
    an established territory.
  • Maintain the truck in good working order which would include but not limited to keeping the
    truck clean and presentable, report all discrepancies of the truck, (repair the ones that you can),
    maintain records for work repairs the truck has had.
  • Provides timely reports as required.
  • Handles customer’s complaints and questions. Monitors and follows-up on it until final
    resolution.
  • No overnights
  • Local/regional delivery routes
  • Perform additional tasks that may be required.

Petroleum Transport Driver - Full Time (New Haven)

Requires Class B CDL with Tanker & Hazmat Endorsement

 

  • Local/regional delivery routes
  • Deliver propane and/or refined fuel to Ag Plus's bulk plant locations and/or customers.
  • Be responsible for timely delivery of product to assigned locations.
  • Maintain the truck in good working order.
  • Drive in a safe manner.
  • No overnights required.
  • Perform additional tasks that may be required.

Assistant Controller

Summary: Assists in the planning, organizing, directing, and controling the accounting and control function of Ag
Plus and Synergy Feeds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supports Ag Plus’ stated Vision, Mission, and Business Values.
  • Projects a positive attitude to customers and employees at all times.
  • Provides outstanding and courteous customer service.
  • Read and follow company employee policies
  • Assists in overseeing all accounting systems software and Information Technologies (IT) for operations, accuracy, and updates.
  • Reviews and balances company accounts to insure they are in balance.
  • Assists in the preparation of the monthly income statement, balance sheet, and budget comparison for the Controller/CFO, CEO, and the Board of Directors.
  • Plan and oversee the assigned internal controls that are implemented upon approval of the Controller/CFO.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual tax forms.
  • Assists in assigned grain accounting duties.
  • Insures the smooth flow of information to management.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Assist in all company audits.
  • Serves as a back-up to Human Resource duties which include but are not limited to the processing of bi-weekly payroll, Department of Transportation (DOT) records maintenance, and administration of the employee drug testing programs.
  • Serves as a back-up in the monitoring of the daily CoBank activity, perform the daily functions if needed
  • Review company policies regarding accounting, cash flow, computer, software, and currency security for effectiveness and recommend improvements to the Controller/CFO
  • Accept additional responsibilities and duties as directed by the CEO and Controller/CFO.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelors degree (B. S.) from four-year College or university with a major in accounting. CPA certification is not required but would be very helpful. Experience in auditing/accounting acooperative would be very helpful.


Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports,and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies,or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, publicgroups, and/or boards of directors.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software;Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Grain Operations Attendant - Monroeville & Edgerton (Full-Time Seasonal)

*Requires a valid driver's license

  • Assists in grain handling and plant maintenance at the Monroeville & Edgerton locations.  Also performs functions that may include maintenance of equipment, plant and rolling stock.
  • Performs required preventative maintenance and have all preventative maintenance reports turned in on time.
  • Cleans up grain spills
  • dumping and receiving of producer's grain.
  • Perform additional tasts that may be required.

General Labor Attendant - Churubusco (Full Time Seasonal

Summary: Performs functions at the assigned branch that may include maintenance of equipment, plant, rolling stock, operation of forklifts, loaders, operating tender trucks, filling, loading, and delivering products, loading customer's; vehicles with product, unloading of deliveries and other duties as required.


Education and/or Experience
One to three years related experience preferred.
